The Conference gathered in one place representatives of the relevant Macedonian ministries, municipal and public utility officials, consulting and construction companies, and water professionals working within the water sector in the region.
The Conference ”Challenges in the Water Sector in the Approximation Process to the European Union”, organised by ADKOM in cooperation with Skopje’s Water Supply and Sewerage Public Utility Company and under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning of the Republic of Macedonia, took place in Skopje last 4th and 5th October, being one of the most important sectorial events related to the water sector in the region.
The Conference, aimed at facilitating the exchange of practical experience and an enhanced collaboration between water utilities and professionals from the water sector, allowed EPTISA to present its most recent experience in Spain and in all the countries in Southeast Europe, where the group is implementing a wide variety of very relevant projects.
The participation of EPTISA comprised a stand where all participants could get acquainted with the company’s portfolio of services, and also a paper and a presentation on the topic “The Water Sector in Serbia in the Framework of the Accession Process”. During this presentation, and having in mind the particular state of affairs, the involvement of all the relevant stakeholders, and the defined EU standards, it was underlined the crucial role that competent consulting companies with relevant experience in the EU approximation process will have in assisting the national authorities when transposing and enforcing the multiple requirements of the EU Acquis in the field of environment. The significant importance of a thorough understanding of the local context was also stressed.
The topics covered by the Conference included water supply systems, wastewater collection and treatment, water loss detection and reduction methods, telemetry and SCADA systems, and integral water resources management, fields where EPTISA has acquired abundant experience over its 56 years of existence.
