The new contract aims to upgrade the water and wastewater infrastructure in several municipalities across Republika Srpska, facilitating the protection of the environment from water pollution and improving its population’s public health standards.

The total population in Republika Srpska (one of the two entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina) is approximately 1.5 million inhabitants, of which just 60% are connected to the water supply network and only 45% to the sewerage system. In order to alleviate this situation, the government entered into a loan agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) for the implementation of the Water and Sanitation Project, a programme aimed at the construction and rehabilitation of water supply and sanitation infrastructure in several municipalities.

Water and Sanitation - Bosnia

The project will help to improve the quality of life of the country’s population and will meet Bosnia and Herzegovina’s needs regarding a future compliance with the relevant European legislation in the field of environment. Its main purpose is the protection of the public health and the environment from water pollution, as well as to safeguard the financial and operational viability of the involved water utility companies.

Thanks to this newly awarded contract a team of engineers from a consortium led by EPTISA will supervise the design, construction, testing and commissioning of a large number of environmental infrastructures. EPTISA will act as “the Engineer” and will carry out its regular duties in accordance with FIDIC Conditions.

The contract has a budget of 2 million Euros and will be implemented over a period of 32 months.

This assignment further strengthens EPTISA’s position as one of the leading environmental engineering service providers in Southeast Europe, with relevant projects under implementation in the fields of water, wastewater and solid waste in all the countries in the region.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina EPTISA has been working since 1999. Our local office counts on a team of engineers and other professionals that provide project management and backstopping support for several projects under implementation throughout the country.
