Donor: Global Environment Facility (GEF)
Budget: 590,875 $

Project Description:

The project will contribute to strengthening the integrated management of water resources in BiH in accordance with the EU Water Framework Directive. In particular, the project will focus on supporting the River Basins Management of Neretva and Trebisnjica and it will provide definition of decision support instruments and guidelines to achieve the maximum economic effect with respect to the operational rules and constrains of HPPs in various hydrological conditions.

The project consists of the following main components:

  • Development of hydrological and hydraulic models: Making of appropriate application for decision-making which should integrate the models with the possibility of use of results of forecasting models on precipitation (like Aladdin, GFS, HRM, and NMM) and all that with the implementation of existing information systems based on GIS;
  • Analysis of operations of existing hydro-power systems: Definition of the operational rules for particular structures, especially in specific periods (floods, droughts, damages and similar);
  • Capacity building activities for optimal management of multi-purpose reservoirs: Development of a training program, focused on the management of the hydrologic and hydraulic models for optimal management of multi-purpose reservoirs of hydropower plants.
