Project Description:
The overall objective of the project is the further development of the established administrative structure at local level which shall effectively implement the requirements of the new environmental legislation.
The purpose of the project was to assist Bulgarian authorities dealing with implementation of the requirements of the environmental legislation in several aspects such as strengthening the administrative capacity of municipalities, increasing the institutional capacity of BAMEE (Bulgarian Association of Municipal Environmental Experts), training for municipal administrations, improvement of the information system, and contribution to the implementation of the Operational Programme “Environment 2007-2013” which is financed by the EU Structural and Cohesion Fund.
Assistance to Bulgarian authorities was provided for:
- Preparation and management of environmental investment plans, programmes and projects with emphasis on development and implementation of different financial schemes for environmental projects;
- Further improvement of the information systems and data exchange at local level;
- Raising public awareness about environmental issues; and
- Establishment of the most appropriate administrative structures at the local level.
