RESILIENCE STARTS AT HOME – TOGETHER, BETTER PREPARED FOR FLOODS!

On 18 October, in Skopje’s City Park, Republic of North Macedonia we came together for the “Resilience Starts at Home” event to learn how to prepare for floods and respond in time when facing a risk and to mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction.

Residents, families and children followed the “Resilience Trail” and took part in interactive and educational activities to discover:

  1. how to identify flood hazards and risks;
  2. how to prepare their homes and families;
  3. what to pack in an emergency bag;
  4. what to do in an emergency and when to call 112;
  5. why flood hazard and risk maps are important for better planning and protection.

Special thanks to the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia for taking part and helping spread messages of preparedness, solidarity and community support. Thanks also to everyone who attended, including residents, families and members of the media!

We can’t always prevent floods, but we can reduce the risk and prepare to respond in time.

That’s why we continue to share this message: KNOW. PREPARE. RESPOND.

The project “Improving the Implementation of the EU Floods Directive through the Harmonisation of National Legislation and the Preparation of Flood Risk Management Plans” is supported by the European Union and co-financed by the budget of the Republic of North Macedonia.
